Some micro-celebrities have gone missing at Cabrillo’s library recently. Missing posters have been posted around the Aptos campus in hopes that students will help search.
Who’s missing? A group of 55 tiny glass ducks all named Quakers.
The librarians need the help of students to find them in the library. It’s a big place, and they could be hiding anywhere, such as between books, under chairs, or in one of the study rooms.
Librarian Betsy Vaca said, Quakers is the unofficial mascot of the library. “His name is Quakers, with no C, and sometimes he’s guarding the door,” she said. It started with a fun activity for students to do before finals to debrief.
The library staff likes to display Quakers in different ways, like sitting at a dinner table to help promote the culinary arts program.
Don’t worry about being unable to speak his native tongue when you find him, as Quakers is trilingual, English, Spanish, and Duck.
If students find Quakers, they are to return him to the check-out desk in exchange for a squishy prize. However, students aren’t allowed to find him twice in one visit.
So make sure to keep your eyes peeled when checking out a book or studying with friends because you never know where you might see him hiding.
