Cabrillo sweep first tournament of 2018-19 season – The Seahawks tipped off their preseason schedule by sweeping the fourth annual Cabrillo College Tip-Off in Aptos.
The Seahawks downed the Shasta College Knights on Nov. 3 in the first game 66-51, but looked to be focused on developing chemistry and shaking off the rust brought on by the offseason.
“Any time you play a game, you are just trying to grow a little bit,” said Cabrillo head coach Tony Marcopulos “It’s a long process, but we’ll get there.”
Cabrillo got a little closer to “there” on Nov. 4 versus the Redwoods College Redwoods, crushing them 96-46 to tease what great heights the Seahawks may be capable of reaching as the season goes on.
With a stifling press defense and a high-tempo, high-scoring offense, the Seahawks presented a nightmare for the Redwoods.
“We want to make a name for ourselves,” said Trey Whitely, a sophomore guard who played at Harbor High. “We want to come for the state title against top level teams.”
Cabrillo hosts Las Positas College on Saturday at 5 p.m. before traveling to play in the Shasta Tournament on Nov. 16.
