There will be a screening of “The Conductor,” a documentary film on the life of Maestra Marin Alsop, former director of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, on Thursday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Crocker Theater at Cabrillo College.
During her time with Cabrillo’s music festival, she was the music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra from 2006 to 2021, at which time she was named the orchestra’s Music Director Laureate.
“The Conductor” follows Alsop’s career from a music-filled childhood through her years as a young student at Julliard and her tutelage under the legendary conductor Leonard Bernstein to her rise as a world-class music director.
There will be a Q & A with Alsop and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Martha Mendoza following the screening. Hosted by the Arts Department of Cabrillo College, the showing is a benefit for El Sistema Santa Cruz County music program. Student tickets are $5, $10 for seniors, $25 for general admission.
There are a limited number of tickets available for the El Sistema 10 years Anniversary Party prior to screening from 5pm to 6pm.
