Seahawks basketball team historic run reaches final eight

The Cabrillo’s men’s basketball team will face Fullerton College today during the first round in the final eight of the state tournament. This is the first time the Seahawks have advanced to the state tournament.

The tournament will be held at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. Fullerton — which has a record of 26-4 — are no strangers to these playoff scenarios, finishing as state champions last year.

“We have a lot of confidence in ourselves. We’ve gone through some ups and downs, and this group has never wavered in their confidence, in each other, or their abilities” head coach James Page said on Wednesday.

The Seahawks — 25-5 — are proclaimed underdogs in the final eight, having the lowest seed in the bracket.

“We’re going to have to play our best basketball, obviously the challenge infront of us in huge (playing) against the state champs, we’re looking one game at a time,” Page said of Fullerton.

All games of the tournament can be streamed website via “BAOSN” on a pay-per-view basis on the state website: https://3c2asports.org/Basketball/2023-24/Basketball_state_announcement
