Cabrillo College will be making the move back to in-person sessions on Feb. 22, for both the Aptos and Watsonville campuses. A Feb. 3 meeting of Cabrillo’s EOC (Emergency Operation Center) put the final stages of the plan into effect.
According to Cabrillo College president Matthew Wetstein, about 60% of classes were face to face prior to the COVID shutdown, with 40% online. That ratio will be returned to on Feb. 22.
There will be more protective measures put in place for both students and faculty.
“We are asking everyone to wear a mask,” said Wetstein. “A cloth mask is not enough. A surgical mask with a cloth mask over it is required. Or you would be able to just wear the N-95 mask.”
“We will be providing a classroom where students can obtain surgical masks,” said Kristin Fabos, the director of Public Relations at Cabrillo College, “and our updated policies and COVID protocols can be found on the Cabrillo Website.”
Social distancing and constant self-checking are also still a requirement. Students will also have to be up to date with their vaccination.
Cabrillo will provide COVID testing at parking lot K, Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Those who are unvaccinated because of a medical exemption will have to be tested weekly and provide proof of negative results.
There will be changes at the cafeteria, which will remain open. One of the protective measures will be fewer tables indoors to help maintain social distancing.
More tables will be placed outdoors for students and faculty. Students will also be encouraged to eat and move on as quickly as possible.
