If sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic on Highway 1 or waiting forever for a bus sounds too familiar, this event is for you. Santa Cruz Local is hosting a traffic and transportation panel on Thursday, March 27th, from 12:30-2 p.m. in Room 450, allowing Cabrillo students to voice their frustrations and hear directly from local officials who can make a difference.
County Supervisor Kim De Serpa and Pajaro Valley Unified School District Trustee Gabriel Medina will answer student questions about traffic congestion, public transit, and potential solutions. Santa Cruz Local’s Jay Leedy will moderate, ensuring that student concerns are at the forefront.
“This event is designed specifically for students,” said Kara Meyberg Guzman, Santa Cruz Local’s CEO and event organizer. “If you’ve ever been stuck in traffic on Highway 1 or had a frustrating commute, this is your chance to make your voice heard,” she added.
Guzman also emphasized how important it is for students to understand local government’s role in transportation decisions:
“Our goal is to help get students involved in the process,” she said. “Local government decisions affect your everyday life, and we want students to know they can be a part of the conversation.”
Santa Cruz Local has been gathering student feedback on traffic and commuting issues through an RSVP process, where students answer questions related to their commuting experiences. Those responses will guide the discussion and offer a chance for students to suggest their own ideas for improvement. Attendees will also hear from the panelists on what local leaders plan to do about these issues.
Space for the event is limited. You can RSVP or click here. Don’t miss this opportunity to turn your commute complaints into real change!
